2019 Child Passenger Safety Technician Courses

Do you have a passion for children and safety? Learn the skills to safely transport children in vehicles and share that knowledge with parents and caregivers.

In this course you will learn about the mechanics of a collision, the legislation governing child restraints and the different stages of child restraint systems and how they work. The course will include hands-on practice so that you will feel comfortable with different methods of installation as well as guidance on how to help parents and caregivers select and use car seats and booster seats correctly.

The course includes two days of in-class instruction followed by a half day community car seat clinic that comprises a practical exam.

Successful candidates will receive a certificate good for three years, membership in the Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada, liability insurance when working as a volunteer, and access to regional and nation-wide networking and support. Membership in CPSAC guarantees you ongoing support and updates as technology and standards change.

Variable, depending on location and travel arrangements.

Technician Transfer:
Have you previously certified as a CPST under a different program, perhaps BCAA/JIBC or St. John Ambulance? There may be a 1-day transfer option that will give you access to CPSAC’s insurance, networking, and support. Please inquire.

We recommend the full training course for anyone who works hands-on transporting children. It offers a breadth of knowledge that goes beyond the basics and gives you access to the national network of technicians. Many organizations just can’t afford to lose their employees for the 2.5 days it takes to complete the training.
